Elements of Cartography(1953-1995), the most widely used textbook(English-speaking countries) published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New York, U.S.A. Its authurs are Arthur H. Robinson, Joel L. Morrison, Phillip C. Muehrcke, A. Jon Kimerling, Stephen C. Guptill. Arthur Howard Robinson 1915 – 2004) was an American geographer and cartographer, who was a Lawrence Martin Professor Emeritus of Cartography in the Geography Department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 1947 until he retired in 1980. The Wisconsin cartography program has conferred more than 100 masters and 20 doctoral degrees, and many of the doctoral recipients created respected cartography programs at other universities. The Map Library at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is named in his honor. He was a prolific writer and influential philosopher on cartography, and one of his most notable accomplishments is the Robinson projection in 1961. Robinson served as president of the International Cartographic Association (1972–76), and as vice president and president of the Association of American Geographers. He was awarded the Carl Mannerfelt Gold Medal by the International Cartographic Association in 1980.

《新编地图学教程》及电子教案是中国发行量最大的高校地学院系地图学课程教科书，由高等教育出版社于2000年起出版发行。其第1版由华东师范大学蔡孟裔、北京大学毛赞猷、南京大学田德森、东北师范大学周占鳌四位老师编著，电子教案由北京师范大学朱良2004年编制完成。八年后，2008年又由北京大学毛赞猷、北京师范大学朱良、东北师范大学周占鳌、华东师范大学韩雪培四位老师编著完成了第2版，相应的电子教案由北京师范大学朱良2011年编制完成。在第2版发行了近十年后，上述四位老师于2017年编著完成了第3版，其电子教案同样由北京师范大学朱良同年编制完成。
